McClaren on the up, while Volendam earn stalemate
Steve McClaren's FC Twente closed the gap on Ajax and leaders AZ Alkmaar at the top of the Eredivisie with a 4-1 victory at FC Groningen.
Twente are now two points behind second-placed Ajax, while PSV have climbed to fourth following an away draw with Vitesse Arnhem.
Heracles Almelo defeated Sparta Rotterdam, while rock-bottom FC Volendam secured a surprise stalemate at FC Utrecht.
Twente took the lead after just 17 minutes against
Groningen as Marko Arnautovic hit the back of the net and Eljero Elia then doubled the visitor's advantage four minutes later.
Groningen pulled a goal back through Goran Lovre (45) but Ronnie Stam added a third for Twente on 68 minutes and Blaise N'Kufo made sure of the points on the stroke of full-time.
PSV climbed the table with a 1-1 draw at
Vitesse and it was the visitors who took the lead as Nordin Amrabat scored two minutes before the break.
However, Vitesse hit back on 65 minutes as substitute Niklas Tarvajarvi equalised.
Heracles ensured they stayed above
Sparta with a 2-1 victory at Polman Stadion.
Erik Falkenburg (26) had given the visitors the lead, but Jan Wuytens (45) and Ricky van der Bergh (50) completed the turnaround for Heracles.
Utrecht and
Volendam could not be separated in a goalless draw at Nieuwe Galgenwaard.
