In other games, Heracles and De Graafschap could not be separated and Vitesse Arnhem claimed three vital points. PSV Eindhoven extended their unbeaten run to five games with a goalless draw against title-chasing FC Twente. Steve McClaren's side remain in third place in the table and have now gone seven games without tasting defeat. Willem II brought a run of four consecutive defeats to an abrupt end as they edged a five-goal thriller against Sparta Rotterdam. Rens Van Eijden opened the scoring for Andries Jonker's side after only three minutes, before Frank Demouge doubled the hosts' advantage on 22 minutes. Ruud Knol then pulled one back from the penalty spot on 40 minutes, but Sparta's cause was then made all the more difficult by Edouard Duplan's sending off two minutes later. Joey Godee did restore parity on 54 minutes, but four minutes later Ergan Swenkals snatched a winner for the hosts. Vitesse Arnhem secured a first victory in seven outings as they claimed a 3-1 home success over Volendam. Alexander Buttner broke the deadlock seven minutes in and Santi Kolk (26) extended that advantage. Melvin Pltaje handed the visitors a lifeline on 53 minutes, but Mads Junker rounded off the scoring eight minutes from time. Volendam remain rock-bottom of the Dutch top-flight on the back of another disappointing result. Elsewhere, Heracles and De Graafschap failed to trouble the scorers in their contest. Heracles have now taken only two wins from their last 10 fixtures, while De Graafschap have just one in 14.
