AZ continue on top, Ajax grab win

AZ Alkmaar remain three points clear at the top of the Eredivisie after victory, while Ajax kept up the pace in second. AZ travelled to bottom-of-the-table Volendam and eased to a comfortable 2-0 win with goals in either half from Ari and David Mendes da Silva. Things were far from comfortable for Ajax in Nijmegen as they claimed victory despite having just 10 men. Miralem Sulehmani grabbed a brace just after the break which sandwiched Ramon Zomer's goal for NEC. Youssef El-Akchaoui then levelled for the home side, before, just moments later, Ajax were reduced to 10 men when Dario Cvitanich saw red. But despite being a man short, Ajax were back in front with 10 minutes left as Dani Fernandez put through his own net. The win was sealed in injury time when Spaniard Gabri fired home. Champions PSV Eindhoven remain way off the pace and they again dropped points, this time at lowly Roda. Timmy Simons put PSV ahead just before the hour with a penalty, but, just seconds later, Willem Janssen grabbed a leveller for Roda. The points take Roda up one place to third from bottom, while, PSV lie in fifth - some 13 points adrift of AZ. Groningen were held to 1-1 draw at Sparta Rotterdam. Koen van de Laak gave Groningen the lead just after the break but Joey Godee rescued a point for the home side.
