Vale ready to sign loan star on permanent basis from County

Stockport County defender Gareth Owen is set to sign for Port Vale on a permanent basis. Owen is expected to sign his contract in the next 24 hours after the deal was held up at Stockport's end on Monday. The 26-year-old has agreed in principle to a deal which should see him stay at Vale Park for the next two-and-a-half years. The former Oldham man made five appearances for Vale during a month long loan in November in which the club managed to win just once. Prior to his loan move with Port Vale, Owen spent a month on loan with League One side Yeovil. The defender's form for Russell Slade's side sparked rumours his loan could turn into a permanent transfer but Vale have swooped to get their man.
