Juve go top, while Chievo prevail in basement battle

Juventus moved top of the Serie A table with a narrow victory over Fiorentina on Saturday. Their time at the summit could be cut short once Inter Milan have completed their weekend fixture, with only goal difference separating the two. However, for now Juventus lead the way after a 1-0 success over an out-of-sorts Fiorentina side. Claudio Marchisio grabbed the only goal of the game at Delle Alpi on 21 minutes, squeezing home from the tightest of angles. Juve have now won six of their last seven games, while La Viola have suffered three straight defeats to put a serious dent in their European push. Elsewhere, Chievio prevailed at Reggina in a battle between two struggling sides. The hosts' cause was made all the more difficult once Carlos Carmona was dismissed five minutes before the interval for his part in an unsightly scuffle. Chievo, though, had to wait until the third minute of injury time at the end of the game before Vincenzo Italiano fired an unstoppable effort into the top corner and handed them all three points. Reggina remain rock-bottom, four points adrift of safety, while Cheivo also remain in the bottom three despite their success.
