Stanley miss out on midfielder

Adelaide United have fended off interest from League Two's Accrington Stanley to sign Blackburn Rovers' Rostyn Griffiths. The 20-year-old will initially join the Reds on a short-term contract until the end of the A-League finals series, with an option of extending the deal for a further two years. Adelaide boss Aurelio Vidmar had been keeping tabs on Griffiths for a while now and is keen to slot the athletic midfielder into his starting side as soon as possible. "We needed some strength in the midfield because we've been a little bit depleted, so we've made some contact over the last couple of weeks," Vidmar told The Age. "We'll just have to see how he goes over the next couple of training sessions, and see where he's going to fit in, but he's certainly going to be an asset for us. "He's a big lad, he's got very good technique, is someone who likes to get forward, a box-to-box type of player and that's certainly what we've been missing over the last few weeks." Griffiths enjoyed a successful loan spell at Accrington earlier this season and also had a stint with SPL side Gretna last term.
