Ajax lose more ground in title race

Vitesse Arnhem and Utrecht secured home wins over Ajax and ADO Den Haag respectively on Sunday. Ajax's title hopes are fading fast after making it four without a win following a 4-1 thrashing at Vitesse Arnhem. Resurgent Vitesse had Ajax on the back foot from the off with Lasse Nilsson opening the scoring with seven minutes played. Luis Suarez restored parity shortly after, but a quick-fire double from the home side before half-time settled the destination of the points. Dalibor Stevanovic restored Vitesse's lead before Nilsson added his second of the game. Ricky Wolfswinkel's 68th minute effort wrapped up the scoring and a fine home win for Vitesse. ADO Den Haag remain in relegation trouble after slipping to a 3-1 defeat at Utrecht. Csaba Horvath put the visitors in front, but Robbert Zwinkels' dismissal proved the turning point in the match. Gregoor van Dijk levelled matters from the penalty spot with Ali Boussaboun and Sander Keller netting second-half efforts. In one of the most exciting matches of the season 10-man PSV Eindhoven ran out 5-3 winners over 10-man Volendam. PSV raced into a two-goal lead thanks to efforts from Ola Toivonen and Jeremie Brechet. However, Volendam struck back with two goals in the space of six minutes from Gerson Sheotahul (penalty) and Paul de Lange restoring parity. The visitors moved 4-2 in front with goals either side of half-time from Edison Mendez. Both teams then lost a man when goalscorer Toivonen and substitute Jack Tuyp were given their marching orders. Otman Bakkal added a fifth for PSV before Rowin van Zaanen scored an even later consolation. De Graafschap overcame a one-goal deficit to lead FC Twente only for Steve McClaren's side to claim a 2-2 draw. Stephan Keller cancelled out Blaise N'Kufo's opener before Luuk de Jong put the home side in front on 52 minutes. However, N'Kufo's second of the match late on, this time from the penalty spot, ensured the points were shared. Feyenoord's home clash against Groningen at De Kuip finished goalless.
