Real Madrid manager Juande Ramos has revealed that winger Royston Drenthe is suffering from anxiety.
The Dutch ace has been left out of Madrid's last three games against Numancia, Racing Santander and Sporting Gijon at his own request.
The 21-year-old has been suffering since he was booed by his own supporters during Real's 1-0 win at home to Deportivo La Coruna and has not featured since.
Drenthe, currently in his second season at the Bernabeu after signing in August 2007, has the full support of his manager.
"Drenthe's suffering from anxiety. He's a young lad that needs all the support of the people who work with him," Ramos told
Cadena Ser radio station.
"As his coach I will do all I can to help him because he has a lot of potential."
The left-sider has started just seven out of his 20 appearances in all competitions this term and has pleaded with fans to support him.
"I don't like to feel like I am playing at the Nou Camp or another rival's stadium when I am playing at home," he told
Marca.
"When the fans are unhappy you notice it and it makes it harder to perform well."
Opportunity
Meanwhile midfielder Dani Parejo is one player who has benefited from his team-mate's absence.
The 19-year-old spent the first half of the season with Championship side QPR, making 18 appearances, but was recalled by Ramos last month.
The youngster made his debut on Sunday when he came on for the last ten minutes of Sunday's 4-0 triumph away at Sporting Gijon.
"I am very happy to have made my debut and I will work hard to have more playing time," he told
AS.
"We also must be happy because we won comfortably at a place that can be very difficult."
The win took Real to within ten points of leaders Barcelona and Parejo is adamant the title race is not over.
"Of course we are aware that Barca are ten points ahead and we hope that they begin to feel the pressure," he added.
"There is still a long way to go and we must believe that we have a chance because Barcelona slipped up after the international games.
"Juande has said to us that we have to stay on this path and that we are still growing."
