Winger spends week with Munich staff in bid to end woes
Relegation-threatened Falkirk have sent Neil McCann to Bayern Munich in the hope of resolving his long-standing injury problems.
McCann has played through the pain of hamstring trouble in recent weeks, but the winger now requires specialist treatment if he is to feature in the crunch climax to Falkirk's SPL season.
Indeed, with John Hughes' side teetering dangerously above the relegation spot, the Bairns hierarchy have taken the expensive decision to send the 34-year-old to the German giants for treatment.
"We decided to be ultra-professional and send Neil there because we felt Munich was the best place for medical care. He knew through contacts about the specialists at Bayern," boss Hughes told the
Daily Record.
"I was on the phone to him the other day, things have gone well and I fully expect to have him back in the first team in a couple of weeks.
"Neil is a massive player for Falkirk. We are working around the clock to assist him and speed his rehabilitation."
Special case
With money tight and the threat of a second tier future a real possibility, Falkirk can little afford to be shelling out for treatment on the continent.
However, Hughes feels that a player such as McCann could well be worth the extra expense as he has the quality to keep the club in the SPL.
"We have spent extra money on this and we cannot do it for every player. If someone else has a hamstring problem and asks 'Can I get that?' the answer is no," Hughes added.
"But Neil has been troubled by this injury for a while and we felt we had to do something."
