McClaren's men march on; Heerenveen romp

FC Twente consolidated their second place in De Eredivisie with a 2-0 win at Willem II. Steve McClaren's men are still some eight points adrift of leaders AZ Alkmaar but they put some breathing space between themselves and the chasing pack at Tilburg. Blaise Nkufo opened the scoring after just ten minutes and then the win was wrapped up late in the second half by Marko Arnautovic. Heerenveen stormed into third above Ajax with a 5-1 hammering of Sparta Rotterdam. Danijel Pranjic scored from the penalty after 25 minutes, before Sparta had two players - Kim Jaggy and Ruud Knol dismissed. The Frisians did not add their second goal until 73 minutes when Patrick Ingelsten doubled their advantage. Roy Beerens then scored another penalty before Sparta grabbed a consolation through Edouard Duplan - but Heerenveen were not finished as they added two further goals with Michal Svec and Bonaventure Kalou scoring. NAC Breda closed on the top six with a convincing 3-0 win at Vitesse Arnhem thanks to goals from Nourdin Boukhari, Anthony Lurling and Csaba Feher. Bottom-of-the-table FC Volendam moved level with De Graafschap as they claimed a 1-1 draw at Heracles. Melvin Platje gave Volendam the lead with just 20 minutes left, but Heracles found an equaliser through Jan Wuytens in the final minute.
