Serie A round-up

Image: Ibrahimovic: Two-goal salvo

Inter Milan sit seven points clear at the top of Serie A after seeing off Fiorentina, while AC Milan remain in third.

Inter, AC, Atalanta, Chievo and Palermo all secure big wins

Inter Milan remain the side to catch in Serie A as they pulled seven points clear at the summit, while AC Milan remain in third after a handsome win in Siena. Elsewhere in Italy's top flight there were impressive performances from Atalanta, Chievo and Palermo. Champions Inter look odds on to retain their title as Jose Mourinho's side proved too strong at home to Fiorentina. Jose Mourinho feels Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the best in the world and while he failed to fire in the UEFA Champions League this season, he continues to flourish in Italy. The giant Swede was again Inter's star man as he scored an 11th minute header before ending any lingering Viola hopes of a leveller with a second from range in the final minute. Carlo Ancelotti's Milan were far too good for Siena as they cemented third spot by thumping their hosts 5-1. Andrea Pirlo steadied any nerves from the penalty spot after just six minutes before strike pair Filippo Inzaghi and Alexandre Pato both scored braces. Massimo Maccarone's effort for Siena offered the scantest of consolations. Sergio Floccari was Atalanta's hero as his two-goal salvo after the half-time break was enough to secure a 2-0 win over Torino. Lazio endured an afternoon to forget in the Eternal City as they were thumped 3-0 by Chievo. Erjon Bogdani and Sergio Pellissier both etched their names on the scoresheet in the space of two minutes midway through the first half, before Pellissier added his second after the break. Lazio's woes were exacerbated by Alexsander Kolarov's dismissal just past the hour mark. Palermo were in emphatic form at home to Lecce as they sauntered to a 5-2 win. Edinson Cavani scored twice, while there were further goals for Henrique Fabio Simplicio, Simon Kraer and Fabrizio Miccoli as Palermo ran riot. Simon Tiribocchi was the only Lecce player exempt from criticism as he scored a brace. Reggina continue to prop up the rest of Serie A as they drew 1-1 with Napoli. Bernardo Corradi opened the scoring in the 26th minute but Reggina were denied a three-point haul when Ezequiel Lavezzi found a leveller in the second half. Sampdoria and Roma played out an entertaining 2-2 draw. Julio Baptista opened the scoring for Roma in the 17th minute, only for Giampaolo Pazzini to level and then give Samp the lead. Roma showed plenty of resilience though to restore parity, as Baptista got his second of the afternoon from the penalty spot 20 minutes from time. Udinese substitute Fabio Quagliarella (71) was his side's hero off the bench as his goal cancelled out Giuseppe Mascara's (25) effort for Catania.
