David Beckham admits it was 'very special' to become England's most capped outfield player.

Midfielder happy with performance in England's friendly win

David Beckham admits it was 'very special' to become England's most capped outfield player - and he is now hoping to start Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Ukraine. The former national team captain surpassed Bobby Moore's landmark by earning his 109th cap as a second-half substitute in the 4-0 friendly win over Slovakia. Beckham created England's second goal of the game by supplying the cross for Wayne Rooney to head home and he was pleased with the performance at Wembley. While he was delighted to reach a personal milestone, he insisted the display from the team was what mattered the most.

Dream

"I think when you grow up you dream of playing for your country and dream of playing at Wembley," Beckham told Sky Sports News. "I've been able to play at both Wembleys and to play for my country 109 times, which is both very special for me, and very special for my family. "More importantly tonight was the performance of the team. We started off right and played well in the first half. "We played well in the first two or three minutes, created a few good chances and set the tone of the game. I think the performance was good tonight."
Lennon praise
The 33-year-old will now vie with Aaron Lennon, who started against Slovakia, and Shaun Wright-Phillips, who missed out through injury, for the chance to start on the right against Ukraine. He added: "We'll see. I think at the end of the day I'm happy with the way I played in the second half. "Aaron Lennon was exceptional in the first half, going past players and he is in exceptional form at the moment. "We're hoping Shaun will be back as well on Wednesday, so hopefully we'll be at full strength."
