Gillingham

Image: Andy Thompson: Iconic goal

Sky Sports is launching a survey to find out the best player ever to wear a Gillingham shirt - and we would like you to get involved. We are asking fans of each of the 92 English League teams and Scottish Premier League sides to nominate their all-time favourite footballers. Perhaps you would like to recognise someone from the period when Gillingham secured promotion to the second tier of English football for the first time in 2000. Andy Thomson netted the iconic winning goal in the play-off final against Wigan that took the Gills into the Championship, while Steve Butler was also on the scoresheet. Adrian Pennock was the captain at the time and the personable centre-back was always a fans' favourite, whose popularity was even enhanced by a freak own goal. Striker Bob Taylor, midfielder Terry Cochrane and record goalscorer Brian Yeo could also be in consideration for your vote after distinguished careers at Priestfield. Irishman Tony Cascarino scored 78 goals in 219 appearances for the club in the 1980s, while goalkeeper Ron Hillyard played more than 550 times over a 17-year spell. Is there anyone from the current crop of players who could be considered to be the best in the club's history? To make your selection please complete the form below and tell us why you are putting your chosen nominee forward. Once we have received all your nominations, we will narrow down the selections for each side to the 10 leading candidates. You can then vote for your personal favourite. After all votes are cast we will reveal the winners ahead of the 2009/10 season and crown Gillingham's greatest-ever player!
