Veteran striker decides to hang up boots

Macclesfield Town veteran striker Simon Yeo has decided to retire from professional football. The 36-year-old joined the Silkmen in the summer and made 22 starts for the League Two outfit, scoring seven goals in that time. But he has now decided to hang up his boots, despite pleas from manager Keith Alexander to continue his career. "You like to think you can carry on forever but this season has hit home that is just not possible," Yeo told Macclesfield's official website. "Some of the lads and the gaffer have tried to persuade me to stay on but there comes a time when you just have to be brave and decide to call it a day. "I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to have played the game professionally and I will always look back on my time with great fondness. I've been incredibly lucky."
