Accrington Stanley

Sky Sports is launching a survey to find out the best player ever to wear an Accrington Stanley shirt - and we would like you to get involved. We are asking fans of each of the 92 English League teams and 12 Scottish Premier League sides to nominate their all-time favourite footballers. Maybe you can remember the days of the club's all-time top goalscorer David Hargreaves. The striker starred for Stanley in their non-league days in the 1970s and once scored 56 goals in 44 games in a single season on his way to a total of 318 club goals. Hargreaves' prolific form saw him move to Blackburn Rovers and in the process earn the club their first fee for a player. Perhaps Chris Grimshaw gets your nomination as the club's former record appearance holder with a total of 352. Grimshaw was voted Accrington's PFA Fans' Favourite in a countrywide survey in 2007. What about the current exploits of Paul Mullin? The striker joined the club in 2001 for £15,000 from Radcliffe Borough when they were in the Northern League Division One and has continued scoring the goals in the Football League. You could go for perhaps the most famous name to pull on a Stanley shirt in Brett Ormerod. The striker joined the club in 1995 and scored 32 goals in 54 appearances before being whisked away by Blackpool. The Seasiders paid Stanley £50,000 for his services and when the 32-year-old joined Southampton for £1.75million in 2001 Stanley received a large chunk of the fee. That money was thought to bankroll the club's rise up the non-league ladder. To make your selection please complete the form below and tell us why you are putting your chosen nominee forward. Once we have received all your nominations, we will narrow down the selections for each side to the 10 leading candidates. You can then vote for your personal favourite. After all votes are cast we will reveal the winners ahead of the 2009/10 season and crown the Accrington Stanley's greatest-ever player!
