Coach agrees to move on after disappointing season

Walter Mazzarri has confirmed that he is to step down as manager of Serie A outfit Sampdoria. The 47-year-old has been in charge at Stadio Luigi Ferraris since 2007, leading the club into the Uefa Cup during his first season at the helm. He has failed to replicate that success in 2008/09, though, with Samp finishing a disappointing 13th in the Italian top flight. As a result, Mazzarri and the club's board have mutually agreed to go their separate ways. "Today I have ended by mutual consent my contract with Sampdoria," he told Rai TV. "Everything will be made official tomorrow (Monday) and that is when I will start thinking about my future."
