Prospective owner vows to bankroll climb back into the big time

Prospective Southampton owner Michael Fialka has promised there will be money made available should he take control of the club. The property tycoon is leading the Pinnacle consortium looking to gain control of the ailing League One outfit. With the club financially-crippled, and facing a 10-point penalty next season, the ownership situation needs to be resolved as quickly as possible. While there have been a few stumbling blocks preventing an agreement being reached, Fialka remains confident that his group, who are backed by Saints legend Matt Le Tissier, will emerge successful. As soon as that deal has been put in place the new supremo has vowed to bankroll the club's efforts to climb back into the Premier League. "I am very confident that this club should be back in the Premiership - the facilities, the fan base - everything that goes along with this club is top notch and Premiership standard," he told Sky Sports News. "There will be money to be spent, Matt will be dealing with that, and there will be a new manager in place very shortly. "I can't give you a name at the moment though."

Appeal

Fialka, who helped to fund the payment of staff wages at Southampton this week, has also offered assurances that salaries will not be a problem should his takeover go through. "We have a contingency plan and my feelings towards this are that once my takeover is completed, which I'm sure it will be in a matter of days if not hours, the wages will be paid," he said. The process is currently being delayed by the Football League's insistence that Southampton's new owners do not appeal the 10-point penalty placed upon them. However, Fialka claims that ruling is unjust and has called on League chiefs to review their stance. "It was agreed that we would be allowed to appeal this," he added. "The goalposts now seem to have been moved for us, as of Thursday, and there has to be a reason behind why those goalposts have been moved. "If they can be put back where they should be then the deal will go to completion and everybody will be very happy."
