Tunisian defender needs work permit to finalise move
Southampton have signed Radhi Jaidi on a two-year contract, subject to the Tunisian defender obtaining a work permit.
Jaidi has been a free agent since being released by Birmingham City at the end of last season and he has been a target for Saints boss Alan Pardew in recent weeks.
He trained with Pardew's former club Charlton Athletic in pre-season and a move to St Mary's initially appeared to have fallen through.
Pardew confirmed he wanted to bring in the 34-year-old, but feared the League One club would not be able to secure Jaidi's signature due to concerns over a work permit.
However, the Saints have now confirmed the centre-half has accepted a deal on the South Coast and the club are awaiting the necessary clearance.
"The first thing for me is the fact that Southampton is a big club and I have known that ever since I came to England," Jaidi told the club's
official website about his move.
"As soon as I was given the opportunity to come here I accepted because I know this club has a big infrastructure.
"I think I can add strength and experience to the team, and that's what I will bring to help us reach our targets."
