Striker's contract cancelled by mutual consent
Port Vale have terminated striker Steve Thompson's contract by mutual consent.
The 20-year-old struggled to make an impact at Vale Park after arriving from Middlesbrough in May 2008.
Thompson has spent the last month on loan at Conference North outfit Stafford Rangers after new Vale boss Micky Adams made him surplus to requirements.
With his debut season plighted by a hamstring injury, Thompson made just five starts and 12 substitute appearances for the Valiants, scoring two goals.
He was then placed on the transfer list by Adams but will now leave the club immediately on good terms.
He told the club's
official website: "I need to be playing games and at the present time that's not happening.
"By taking this route it allows me to continue my career elsewhere.
"I would like to wish the club all the best for the future and also the fans who supported me during my time here."
