Championship strugglers confirm non-league tactician as boss

Peterborough United have confirmed the appointment of Kettering manager Mark Cooper as the new boss at London Road. Cooper, 40, took charge of the Poppies' 2-0 Conference win at Cambridge on Saturday afternoon but will be at the helm of the Championship strugglers from Monday. Cooper - who has no league managerial experience - has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract and replaces Darren Ferguson, who left by mutual consent on Tuesday. Posh released an official statement on the club's official website stating their joy at landing Cooper as Ferguson's successor. "Peterborough United are delighted to announce Mark Cooper as the new manager," it read. "We ask all supporters to get behind Mark and his management team and are looking forward to our fixture at Sheffield United on Saturday 21st November." It has also been revealed that former Barnsley and Wigan defender Nicky Eaden will join the Posh backroom staff as assistant manager.
