Boyd's second-half winner boosts hosts' play-off ambitions

Adam Boyd sunk his former club Leyton Orient with a late goal as Hartlepool moved into play-off contention with a 1-0 victory. Pools brought Boyd back to Victoria Park in the summer for £80,000 and he grabbed an 82nd-minute touch to divert a deep Colin Larkin cross into the net and lift Chris Turner's team closer to the League One play-off zone. Boyd's side were good value for their win, in a game which they dominated. They went close on 32 minutes, when James Brown sliced a left-foot shot into the side netting and even closer ten minutes later as Larkin tapped a huge Scott Flinders goal-kick wide. Pools came out after the break in determined fashion and Orient keeper Glenn Morris pulled off a superb one-handed save to keep out a goalbound Andy Monkhouse curler from distance. Orient's best chance came when Scott McGleish sent an angled volley at goal which Flinders stood up to firmly to punch clear.
