Villa defender hopes to get a 'fair crack' under new manager
Aston Villa defender Curtis Davies admits he is glad to see the back of Martin O'Neill following his surprise resignation from the club on Monday.
The East London born player had long since been out-of-favour at the club since O'Neill signed him initially on loan from West Brom back in 2007.
Davies believes that he wasn't given a fair chance of holding down a regular first-team spot by the Northern Irishman and was one of six players made available for transfer this summer.
"I was shocked at Martin O'Neill going," admitted the 25-year old.
"I didn't see it coming to be honest but a lot of players have been frustrated by not having a fair crack of the whip and I'm one of them.
"There is no guarantee whoever comes in is going to play you or not play you.
"But if you feel you have got a chance, then you are happy. As long as someone who comes is fair, I am sure people will be happy. I felt I didn't have a chance."
Togetherness
Davies is hopeful that the club can pull themselves together in time for the Premier League season opener against West Ham on Saturday under the guidance of caretaker manager Kevin MacDonald.
"It's not an ideal situation, but you've got to deal with what you've got," admitted Davies.
"You've got good players at this club and Kevin MacDonald is a good coach.
"Hopefully he has got enough time to put his stamp on it and we can pull together for him."
