1984: Born February 6, in Cambridge. 2001: Makes professional debut for Ipswich, coming off the bench to feature against Helsingborg in the Uefa Cup on November 1. Scores first goal for Ipswich in a 4-1 League Cup defeat to Newcastle on November 27. 2002: Scores for the first time in the Premier League, grabbing the only goal of the game against Middlesbrough in April, but Ipswich are relegated after a 5-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. 2003: Makes England Under 21 debut against Italy. Finishes the 2002-03 season with 18 goals in all competitions. 2005: Completes £2.5million transfer to Charlton in June. Marks Premier League debut for Charlton with two goals in a 3-1 win at Sunderland. Named in 25-man England squad for World Cup qualifying matches against Wales and Northern Ireland. 2006: Makes England debut in friendly against Uruguay at Anfield in March, but is later omitted from Sven-Goran Eriksson's World Cup squad despite being the highest scoring Englishman in the Premier League. Signs a four-year contract extension at Charlton. 2007: Ends the 2006-07 season with 14 Premier League goals for Charlton despite the club being relegated. Turns down a £17million move to West Ham in June, and instead joins Tottenham for £16.5million later in the month. November 21 - Comes on as a substitute in England's 3-2 World Cup qualifying defeat to Croatia at Wembley. 2008: March 9 - Scores his 100th career goal in Tottenham's league win against West Ham. March - Called up to the England squad for World Cup Qualifier against Ukraine. November 6 - Scores hat-trick for Tottenham against Dinamo Zagreb in the Uefa Cup. November 19 - Makes first appearance for England in a year as a second-half substitute in a 2-1 friendly win against Germany. 2009: January 18 - Misses an open goal in a match against Portsmouth, prompting Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp to claim: "Michael Owen, come to think of it, Michael Jackson, could have scored that one." May - Finishes the season with 17 goals in all competitions. August 5 - Completes a £10million move to Sunderland. October 17 - Scores infamous 'beachball' goal to beat Liverpool - his eighth strike of the season. 2010: March 10 - Hits hat-trick in Sunderland's 4-0 win against Bolton. May - Ends the season with 25 goals for Sunderland. June 1 - Misses out on selection for England's World Cup squad, despite being in the provisional 30-man party.
