World champions secure narrow win

David Silva's late goal gave world champions Spain a hard-fought 1-0 win over Colombia in Madrid. Manchester City star Silva came off the bench to grab the only goal of the game four minutes from time. The defeat was harsh on Colombia as they created a number of opportunities at El Santiago Bernabeu only to be denied by Spain keeper Iker Casillas. David Villa, who was looking to become Spain's record goalscorer, came close to reaching the milestone after 15 minutes when he saw his shot come back off the post. Juan Guillermo Cuadrado and Wigan striker Hugo Rodallega both went close to scoring for Colombia in the second half. But Silva had the last word as he poked the ball past Colombia keeper David Ospina four minutes from time. The victory ends Spain's three-game winless streak in international friendlies after losing to Argentina, Portugal and drawing with Mexico in their last three friendlies.
