Midfielder to shake off ankle complaint, but Young still sidelined

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that the injury suffered by Tom Cleverley against Everton is not as bad as first feared. The Manchester United midfielder was forced off 55 minutes into United's 1-0 victory at Goodison Park on Saturday. As he hobbled from the field, fears were raised as to when Red Devils supporters would see him again. Cleverley has struggled with injuries since the start of the season and there were concerns that he could be set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines. Ferguson, though, claims he hauled the 22-year-old off as a precaution, with there no indication that he has suffered lasting damage to his ankle.

Tiredness

"He's felt his ankle again," the United boss told MUTV. "It's nothing serious, just tightness and tiredness. It's his first real game back, although he played on Tuesday (at Aldershot) of course. "He should be okay next week and it was an excellent performance from him in the first half." Meanwhile, Ferguson has confirmed that Ashley Young is likely to be missing for another fortnight, with the England international nursing a toe complaint. He said: "Ashley Young has a toe injury that is not going away so he could be out for a couple of weeks."
