Vincent Kompany reckons Man City have arrived in the Champions League - now to book their knock-out place.
Skipper urges Blues to build on Villarreal 'statement'
Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany believes the Blues have now arrived in the Champions League.
City triumphed 3-0 at Villarreal on Wednesday night to make it back-to-back wins in their debut campaign.
It was also their first away victory in the competition and they became the first English side to win at El Madrigal.
Their hopes of qualifying for the knock-out stage already looked set to hinge on the crunch away trip to Napoli in three weeks and Kompany believes City can make a big impression in the last 16 if they get through.
"I think the biggest statement would be to qualify," he said.
Good things
"We have finally got the campaign going and we feel the Champions League is something we can achieve good things in, just like the league.
"It was a good performance, very professional. We can move on from this."
While City have made a superb start to the Premier League, Wednesday night's game was the first time they looked comfortable in the Champions League.
It was the first time in their opening four games they scored the first goal and Kompany was pleased they secured a clean sheet ahead of what promises to be a testing trip to face Napoli, who are two points behind City in third place.
Reward
"I think our defensive performance, apart from the game in Bayern Munich, has not been too bad in the Champions League," added the Belgian centre-half.
"Sometimes you are just unlucky to get a goal against. Here, a good performance throughout the whole game was rewarded.
"It is a difficult group but we had two games to win against Villarreal and we did it.
"Napoli away now will be unbelievable and I hope we will have a lot of supporters to see us. It will be a great game."
