Romanian defender could join Spanish giants for free

Cristian Chivu's agent says the Romanian defender could be playing for Real Madrid next season. The Inter Milan ace is out of contract in the summer and could leave the Serie A giants on a free transfer. Inter are in talks over extending the 31-year-old's deal, although that is not restricting his possible options. Joan Becali, Chivu's agent, is leaning against an Ajax return, stating Real are a team more of interest.

Talks

"Back to Ajax? I'd say he could continue playing abroad, maybe at Real Madrid," said Becali. "I'm talking with three or four big level teams. He can continue playing for four or five years. "Real? Mourinho knows him well. I've spoken with him, we'll see. "The most important thing is that Christian plays as a pure defender."
