Defender admits he took a gamble on his fitness
Phil Jagielka has played down fears he could face a spell on the sidelines after playing for England with a broken toe.
The Everton defender played through the pain barrier as he helped England to an impressive 1-0 win over world champions Spain.
Jagielka has pulled out of the squad for Tuesday's friendly with Sweden, but the 29-year-old insists he will be fit for Everton's clash with Wolves this weekend.
"I'm fit. There is nothing wrong with me other than I've got a little broken toe.
"It's nothing an injection won't take care of. Obviously it numbs the toe for a few hours and it will be a little bit sore for a while.
"There was an agreement with the club that they'd let me play against Spain which was brilliant.
"It was a small risk but one I was prepared to take.
"It will take four weeks to mend without playing but double with playing. I've got a few more weeks with injections yet.
"I get paid to play football so if I've got to have an injection to do so, it's simple."
Staying grounded
Jagielka is refusing to get carried away by England's win over Spain as he looks to keep expectations in check.
"[Beating Spain] proved we have got a decent amount of strength in depth and we have got some good characters in the squad," added Jagielka.
"But I would not get too carried away saying we are going to win the Euros. It was only a friendly against Spain. But it was a positive result. Let's see where we go from here."
