Irish striker in confident mood

Kevin Doyle insists the Republic of Ireland can go all the way at Euro 2012. The Wolves striker says that the Irish squad had already taken inspiration from Greece's unlikely triumph at Euro 2004. Ireland booked their place in Poland and Ukraine thanks to their convincing play-off triumph over Estonia. Now Doyle and his team-mates are in confident mood ahead of their first major tournament in a decade. "It is nice to be there, it is six months away and there is a lot football between now and then with Wolves, but I want to try and keep myself in as good a shape and as fit as possible and make an impact on the Euros," Doyle told Sky Sports. "Once you get there that is half the battle done and we have shown in one-off games we can beat anyone, we have watched clips of Greece winning it - so why not Ireland?" Doyle is hopeful that Ireland will play England at some point, but would rather it be in the knockout stages than the groups. "You have to play them at some stage if you're to do well so why not?" he said. "I have only ever watched Ireland play England. In my six years we have never played England, but watching as a kid Ireland always did well but I would prefer it to be a quarter-final rather than group stage."
