Goodison Park midfielder signs new long-term contract
Everton have been boosted by the news that Belgium international Marouane Fellaini has signed a new five-year contract at the club.
The powerful 23-year-old midfielder joined the Toffees from Standard Liege in 2008 and has become an integral member of manager David Moyes' squad.
Fellaini's previous deal was due to expire in 2013, however, Everton have moved to secure his long-term future by keeping him at Goodison until the summer of 2016.
The likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid had all been credited with an interest in the midfielder, but it now seems he is staying with the Merseysiders for the foreseeable future.
"We're all pleased that Marouane Fellaini has signed his new contract and we're looking forward to working with him in the years to come," said Moyes.
Agreement
Everton's chief executive Robert Elstone was naturally pleased that lengthy negotiations had finally come to a positive conclusion regarding a player he describes as 'hugely influential'.
"We are delighted to have secured the services of Marouane for the long term," Elstone told the club's
official website.
"As everyone is aware these negotiations have been ongoing for some time but both parties remained positive that we would reach agreement.
"Marouane has been a hugely influential player for Everton since his arrival in 2008 and we hope that remains to be the case for the next five years."
