Levy adamant Tottenham's 'main players' will not leave in January

Chairman Daniel Levy has told Tottenham's rivals to forget about trying to sign the likes of Luka Modric and Gareth Bale in January. Spurs had to fight off Chelsea's persistent summer interest in Modric, while Bale has been linked with moves to Spain or Italy. Some of Tottenham's 'main players' could again attract approaches when the transfer window reopens in just over two weeks' time. But Levy said: "We have a great squad with exceptional talent and none of the main players will be leaving in January."

Focus

Tottenham sit fourth in the Premier League table, seven points behind leaders Manchester City with a game in hand, but lost ground with Sunday's defeat at Stoke. Redknapp is focused on winning the title with Spurs and will even ignore the possibility to succeed England boss Fabio Capello next summer, according to Levy. And Tottenham's chairman thinks their game in hand against Everton will be of vital importance. "I hope we have a great season and that we can finish in the top four or, who knows, maybe even higher. We want first place," said Levy. "I spoke to Harry and told him not to be too despondent, because if we win our game in hand against Everton, we could be only four points behind Manchester City."
