Barcelona confirm length of striker's absence

Barcelona have confirmed that David Villa is set to be sidelined for 'four to five months' after breaking his leg at the Club World Cup. The Spanish international was stretched off during the 4-0 win over Al-Sadd and immediately after coach Pep Guardiola said he would be out for a 'long time'. Now Villa is on his way back to Catalunya, where he will undergo surgery in the next day or so. But Barcelona have confirmed that they expect Villa to be out for up to five-months, which if that was the case could very well spell the end of his Euro 2012 hopes. A statement on the Barca website read: "In the coming hours, Villa will return to Barcelona, via Frankfurt, to be operated on. He will be accompanied by doctor Ricard Pruna and Manel Estiarte. "The approximate time he will be sidelined is between four and five months."
