Midfielder warns troubled star not to throw his career away
Adel Taarabt's bad attitude is in danger of ruining his career, according to QPR midfielder Shaun Derry.
The talented 22-year-old was instrumental in getting the London club promoted last season and was crowned Championship Player of the Year in the process.
But the Morocco international has found himself on the sidelines this season after a series of bust-ups with boss Neil Warnock which has alerted clubs like Paris St Germain.
And Derry fears Taarabt could squander his exceptional abilities and never reach the heights he is capable of because of his temper tantrums.
"Adel has to realise he is going to be the maker of his own destiny and until that clicks into place, you will always have question marks about him," said Derry.
"He has had every opportunity and every type of advice given to him and he has got more ability than anyone I've ever played with, but there is a flaw within his make-up that suggests he isn't fulfilling his potential.
"There were times last year when we played with 10 men either because he threw a strop or decided he didn't want to play. But when he is on form, he is like two men because it takes two to stop him.
"January is a crazy month. Whether it is PSG or another team who decide they want Adel, it's whether that type of deal appeals to the club.
"All I'd like, whether he is here or not, is to see him fulfil his potential. I would just like to read in five or six years' time that he has achieved his potential.
"He needs to play at one of the top European clubs. I think he has got the technical ability but my question would be does his mindset enable his ability to shine?"
