Gers boss unaware of QPR move for striker

Ally McCoist insists there have been no bids for Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic, despite previously hinting QPR had made a move. The Gers boss appeared to confirm the Premier League club had tabled an offer for the Croatia international, stating he had been informed of the bid. However, the Ibrox tactician has clarified that he was aware of the reports surrounding Jelavic, although was unable to confirm nor deny the rumour. Asked if there have been any bids for the player, McCoist said: "No, certainly not to my knowledge. "There was a rumour knocking about on Wednesday evening before the Celtic game. That was all it was. I haven't heard anything to confirm or deny that rumour. "Nobody has told me that any club has made an offer at all. I think it was one of the radio stations that mentioned QPR but it was just rumour."

Very difficult

Rangers were knocked off the top of the SPL table on Wednesday after suffering a 1-0 defeat to in-form Celtic at Parkhead. McCoist does not believe having to come from behind to overtake their arch-rivals is anything new for the club and he knows they need to start winning consistently, starting with Motherwell on Monday. "It's something that's relatively new to us this season," he continued. "It's not something that's new to us in the past few seasons. "The need to pick up three points is just as important if not more important. That goes without saying. It starts on the 2nd against Motherwell. "What we have to do now is try and string consecutive results together and go on a little bit of a run. Obviously against Motherwell it will be very, very difficult, but we have to start somewhere."
