Blackburn striker desperate for first-team action

Blackburn striker Jason Roberts has revealed his frustration at his lack of first-team football this season. The 33-year-old has made just 12 appearances so far this term in all competitions and has not featured since coming off the bench in the defeat to West Brom on 17th December. The former Wigan striker's contract expires at the end of the season and he has been linked with the Ewood Park exit door in the January transfer window. Rovers boss Steve Kean hopes to lower the wage bill to raise funds for new signings and Roberts, one of the club's top earners, could be sacrificed. The striker is desperate to play regular first-team football and revealed he is ready to quit the club if he is not offered any guarantees by his manager.

Frustrating

"It's frustrating, when you're fully fit and want to play football and you're not getting games," he told the Sunday Mirror. "Especially when the club has been struggling and you feel you can make a difference. "I played a key role in keeping us up when Sam Allardyce came in and again under Steve Kean last season. "I feel I have at least another three years left. "I don't want to let another six months go by without playing regularly."
Criticise
Roberts also urged the supporters to stop the protests against Kean and the club's board and help turn Ewood Park into a fortress. The Lancashire club's home matches have been dominated by fans' protests before, during and after games this season, but Roberts feels it is putting the players at a disadvantage. "Supporters have a right to criticise," he added. "But whenever I've played away against a club where you know there is discontent, you always try to keep it quiet for 15 or 20 minutes and wait for the home crowd to turn on their team. "Whatever the fans think, it isn't helping the players - and with some of the younger ones, it can drag them under."
