Red Devils move quickly to deny report
Manchester United and Wayne Rooney have issued a joint statement denying a newspaper report that the England striker is set to leave the club.
The Independent's Saturday edition is running a report suggesting that Rooney would be allowed to leave Old Trafford.
However, before the newspaper had even hit the streets, both United and Rooney denied the report has any foundation.
"Any suggestion that Manchester United and Wayne Rooney are to part company is complete nonsense," said a statement.
"The player and manager have always had and retain utmost respect for each other and look forward to working together in the coming seasons."
Rooney also responded on his
Twitter account, confirming the story was untrue and insisting that he and Ferguson had no issues.
Ferguson recently dropped Rooney for breaking a club curfew ahead of their game with Blackburn Rovers.
"The manager and I have no issues and anyone who says different don't know what they are talking about," he said.
"The Independent are talking absolute rubbish my future is with Manchester United and the club and I are totally commited to each other."
