Rs chief wants team to build on first Premier League victory

QPR boss Mark Hughes has called on his players to build on their win over Wigan as they climbed out of the bottom three with the 3-1 victory at Loftus Road. QPR raced into a 2-0 half-time lead thanks to Heidar Helguson's penalty and Akos Buzsaky's brilliant free-kick. Wigan reduced the arrears with Hugo Rodallega scoring a superb free-kick of his own and Ali Al Habsi kept the visitors in the game when he saved Helguson's second penalty of the contest. Rs substitute Tommy Smith made the game safe when he crashed home a stunning long-range effort to kill off Wigan's hopes of a comeback. It was Hughes' first Premier League win in charge of QPR and he was full of praise for the players' performance. "Well it's just the start and I have explained to them they have to maintain what we produced today and keep working hard in training," said Hughes.

Desire

"The work ethic and the desire to do the right thing and stay in the Premier League is there for everybody to see and I am delighted for the players." Hughes believes the midweek FA Cup win over MK Dons eased the pressure on his side as they made it back-to-back victories. "We kept [the win in midweek] in our thinking and the win on Tuesday helped today. "It is a good habit to have back-to-back wins and we will look ahead to the cup game next week and enjoy it. "We will take every game as it comes and I was pleased with what we produced today. "The guys were excellent all over the pitch and it is a great reward the three points."
