Arteta hospitalised; hamstring for Diaby; Gibbs and Benayoun concern

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger described his squad as 'decimated' by injury after their victory over Liverpool. Midfielder Mikel Arteta was stretchered off in the second half after suffering severe concussion in an accidental collision with Jordan Henderson and the Spaniard has been taken to hospital. Arsenal also lost Abou Diaby to a hamstring injury, with the midfielder stepping off the bench for his first appearance since the end of November only to last just 27 minutes. And ahead of Tuesday's UEFA Champions League last 16 second leg against AC Milan, Wenger also revealed concerns regarding Yossi Benayoun and Kieran Gibbs.

Spirits

The Arsenal boss is quoted as saying by his club's official website: "The bad news of the day is that Diaby is injured and did his hamstring. "Benayoun has a small hamstring problem, Gibbs has a problem. "We look decimated after the game. I don't know who will be available on Tuesday night." But with his spirits boosted by a win over Liverpool which could prove decisive in the battle to finish in the top four of the Premier League, Wenger was prepared to joke. Arsenal trail Milan by four goals on aggregate after a nightmare first leg and, when taking into account the injuries, he said: "Maybe I will play with six strikers, as we have to score goals!"
