Poyet happy with point; Mackay bemoans lack of concentration

Gus Poyet hailed his side's battling performance as Brighton twice came from behind to earn a point against Cardiff at the Amex Stadium. Sam Vokes came off the bench to net a vital equaliser in the closing moments of the game to deny the Bluebirds three points, which would have taken them into the play-off spots. Vokes tapped home from Ashley Barnes' pass in the 89th minute to salvage a share of the spoils for the Seagulls after Peter Whittingham's fine strike looked to have won the game for the visitors. Earlier, Barnes had levelled matters for Poyet's hosts following Joe Mason's opener, but a point does neither side much good in their bid for a place in the Championship play-offs. And Poyet told Sky Sports News: "The spirit is very good if you see the faces. They were so happy, the boys, but their were people really upset in the dressing room because after all the effort, not to get the three points was very disappointing for them. "So, that shows that we want to stay up in there (the play-off hunt) and I think this point and probably the point last week at Doncaster is going to be two very good points if we are able to beat Portsmouth (at home) on Saturday."

Disappointed

Meanwhile, Cardiff boss Malky Mackay was disappointed with his side's lack of concentration in the second half as they twice let the lead slip. He said: "We're disappointed we lost the final goal but it was always going to be a difficult game here tonight. "Gus (Poyet) has got Brighton playing a very specific way and I think we played against that well tonight by taking the lead twice in the game. "In one sense I'm disappointed but in the other sense it was always going to be a tough game coming down here."
