Wigan boss delighted with "perfect" display against Stoke

Roberto Martinez was delighted with Wigan Athletic's performance as they beat Stoke 2-0 to pick up only their second home win of the season. Wigan dominated the match and always looked the more likely of the two sides to take all three points at the DW Stadium. Martinez was pleased to see his side finally get some reward for performances that he felt warranted more points than they had picked up in recent weeks. "It is very pleasing because I feel that it was the perfect performance from us," he told Sky Sports. "A few times now we have played really, really well and didn't get the points to show for it. "Today I felt we looked a well-organised side, working extremely hard to keep a clean sheet, and the manner in which we did that because we limited them to very, very little. "To get two goals, show that little bit of knowhow, and show that composure in the second half is very pleasing. "To get a win at Anfield was important, but to get a win at home against a side like Stoke is extremely, extremely pleasing."

Tough

A tough run of games now await Wigan with visits to Chelsea and Arsenal sandwiching a home game with champions Manchester United. But the Wigan boss says they will approach the games just like any other. "Today was a very, very difficult game. You don't play names in the Premier League anymore, every side is difficult," Martinez added. "We will take it game-by-game, try to be as competitive as we can and make sure we carry on with the level of performance that we have showed."
Survival
Despite the win Wigan remain in the relegation places after wins for QPR and Bolton, but Martinez is still confident of survival and feels they have hit form at just the right point. He said: "It is important to get form with results. And I think we have found form a lot earlier than last year. "So we got a really good level this season, the first game in February (a 1-1 home draw with Everton) showed it with a very good performance, and from then on we built on it and moved forward, getting stronger, stronger, stronger."
