Adel Taarabt's first-half free-kick was enough to secure a 1-0 win and the Hoops held on despite the Moroccan later being sent off. The win lifts QPR above Wigan into 16th as they continue to spring surprises in their battle against relegation. And Hughes feels the three points against Spurs were thoroughly deserved. "Once again we've gone down to 10 men, but I thought we were by far the better team anyway and it would have been travesty if we hadn't won the game," he said. "Each and every one put a real shift in. The fans drove us on and it's a fantastic night. "We've made another statement. People wrote us off too regularly when they saw our run-in. We knew we've got quality and with the desire and determination we've got, everyone has seen we're a team out there." Hughes refused to criticise Mark Clattenburg, who red carded Taarabt for kicking the ball away, adding: "It's difficult for referees. "It's not been easy for us the last few months. Some decisions have gone against us but I know for a fact they make honest decisions. "Sometimes it does frustrate you but we're not going to dwell on that. The performance rises above that and I thought we were excellent."
