Connor can lead Molineux club back to Premier League, says winger
Wolves winger Michael Kightly has backed Terry Connor to lead the relegated club to an instant Premier League return.
Connor could not save the Molineux side's top-flight status after enduring a difficult managerial baptism following the sacking of Mick McCarthy.
McCarthy's former assistant was appointed until the end of the season, but took just two points from a possible 30 as Wolves went down with a whimper.
Chief executive Jez Moxey said the club would not be making any decision on the club's managerial position under the campaign draws to a close.
Good job
"If Terry gets the job, I'm sure we can bounce back up," said Kightly. "From the outside it doesn't look as if he's done too well, but from the inside, he's done a really good job. He said we've got to bounce back next season."
Star names including £7m striker Steven Fletcher, England winger Matt Jarvis and Republic of Ireland striker Kevin Doyle are expected to leave Molineux this summer as they prepare for life back in the Championship.
But Kightly, who insists he wants to stay, believes Wolves can enjoy a successful season if they manage to keep hold of a number of other key players.
Several members of the squad helped Wolves win the Championship title in 2009 and Kightly says their experience will be vital.
Blues
"The Championship is tough, but if we can keep the main part of the squad, I don't see why we can't bounce straight back," the 26-year-old told the
Express and Star.
"We've done it before, so hopefully that will give us a good chance.
"We've got to make sure we don't get any 'last-season blues' when we start again in August."
