Midfielder ruled out of FA Cup final

Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam will miss the remainder of the season and the FA Cup final with a knee injury. Adam has been out of action since picking up the knee problem in the defeat at Queens Park Rangers last month. The 26-year-old strained ligaments after a heavy challenge by QPR defender Armand Traore at Loftus Road Liverpool were hoping the Scotland international may return before the end of the campaign, but it has been confirmed the summer signing from Blackpool will not return until next season. It means the 26-year-old will miss next month's FA Cup final clash with Chelsea at Wembley as Liverpool look to make it a domestic cup double.

No surgery

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish confirmed there was no need for an operation on the injured knee and also revealed the Scotland international would not be fit to be considered for selection for Great Britain's Olympic team for this summer's London Games. "There is no operation needed but he won't play this season," said Dalglish. "And I would think if they had any designs on having him in the Olympics he wouldn't be fit for that either." Liverpool will be hoping Adam will recover in time for the start of pre-season training in June ahead of next season.
