Coach to be offered contract extension

Nancy are hoping that Jean Fernandez can be persuaded to pen a new contract, with the club having improved noticeably under his guidance. The vastly-experienced 57-year-old inherited the reins at Stade Marcel Picot last summer, having brought to an end a productive five-year spell at Auxerre. Fernandez has taken Nancy into the top half of Ligue 1, with the club currently on a nine-match unbeaten run. They did not get off to the best of starts, as fresh faces on and off the field took a while to find their feet, but they are now playing a brand of football that is pleasing on the eye. The Nancy board are delighted with Fernandez's efforts and just 12 months after handing him a two-year deal, are already planning to put fresh terms on the table. "It is up to him," said chairman Jacques Rousselot. "I am a man working long term with trust. "Without insulting those from our past, Jean Fernandez, with a different style and approach to work, is a great man."
