Thorn confirms captain has rejected a new contract

Sammy Clingan is set to leave Coventry City in the summer after the captain rejected a new contract at the Ricoh Arena. The midfielder's deal is due to expire and the Sky Blues initially opened talks regarding a possible extension back in the autumn. However, Coventry manager Andy Thorn has confirmed an agreement has not been reached and the 28-year-old is poised to move on. "I have spoken to Sammy," said Thorn in the Coventry Telegraph. "We have offered him a decent contract but he chose to turn it down, but that's his prerogative. "He's been great but it's highly unlikely that we'd have got anywhere near what he was asking for. "We offered him a decent deal and he chose to wait until the end of the season and see what he can do so we wish him all the best." Clingan joined Coventry from Norwich City in 2009 and he has made 100 appearances during his time with the club, who have been relegated from the Championship.
