Winger hails Motherwell's European achievement
Motherwell winger Chris Humphrey had double reason to celebrate this week after becoming a father again and helping his side qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
The Steelmen have enjoyed a superb season to date and Dundee United's defeat to Rangers in midweek guaranteed third spot for Stuart McCall's troops.
With Rangers certain to miss out on Europe next season due to their ongoing financial problems, Motherwell will benefit by taking the SPL's other spot in the Champions League alongside champions Celtic.
Humphrey admits life does not get any better for him at the moment on and off the pitch.
"It's just been the most amazing week," Humphrey told
skysports.com. "We've had a healthy baby boy and Motherwell finish third and qualify for the Champions League. It's unreal!"
Motherwell's flying winger has been attracting scouts from the Premier League and the Championship on a regular basis but the lure of Champions League football could see him remain at Fir Park.
Southampton, Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers are all thought to have watched Humphrey in action in recent weeks and Motherwell face a battle to keep the 24-year-old.
Humphrey has hailed Motherwell's achievement in finishing third and praised his team-mates for proving their critics wrong by finishing higher up the table than the majority of their rivals.
Great effort
"Our first target has always been to finish third and it's been a great effort by everyone to have achieved it.
"It's a testament to the whole squad. We've a good group of players who all work hard for each other so it's nice to achieve our goals.
"I'm sure most people didn't have us finishing third, especially when you look at the resources of some other sides, but we believed in ourselves and the gaffer believed in us.
"We could never have dreamed that a Champions League spot would be available."
Player awards
Despite their success, goalkeeper Darren Randolph was the only Well player to be named in the SPL Team of the Year and although he was surprised more of McCall's side were not recognised for their efforts he admits he would prefer qualifying for the Champions League than individual honours.
"I'm thrilled that Daz got in the team of the year," continued Humphrey. "He's been great all year for us.
"I thought we might have had one or two more in there considering how we've done but, hey, we got third and a Champions League spot so we'd all rather take that!"
