Experienced midfielder hoping to find a new challenge

Paul Scharner will leave West Bromwich Albion at the end of the season and is hoping to find a new challenge in the summer. The midfielder joined the Baggies on a free transfer from Wigan Athletic in 2010 and he has scored seven goals in 63 appearances during his time at The Hawthorns. He has featured 28 times in the Premier League this season, but he needed to figure for 20 minutes or more in at least 25 matches in order to trigger a 12-month extension. After failing to achieve that target, the 32-year-old Austrian has confirmed that he will be moving on after paying tribute to the West Brom supporters.

Proud

Scharner told the Birmingham Mail: "I think I've concluded my mission at West Brom by helping them to stay in the Premier League. I've never been relegated and I'm very proud of this. "I didn't take up the (contract) option because it was impossible as I have not played enough games. To do so (stay) would need new negotiations - and that won't be happening. "I would like to stay because of the supporters, who are great, but the club has other plans, so it is time to move on. "But I think I still have enough to offer someone and have set myself a new challenge somewhere else. It is time to finish off the season and then decide on my future."
