Cardiff boss confident midfielder not heading for the exit
Cardiff boss Malky Mackay is confident Peter Whittingham will not be on the move this summer despite the Bluebirds missing out on promotion once again.
Cardiff suffered yet more play-off heartache when they were heavily beaten at the semi-final stage by West Ham, who went on to book their place back in the Premier League.
The Hammers made an unsuccessful approach for the talented 27-year-old midfielder in the January transfer window and could be tempted to make another offer for the former Aston Villa man.
But Mackay fully expects Whittingham, who joined the club in January 2007, to honour the new contract he signed last summer which ties him to the Welsh club until 2014.
No interest
"I totally believe Peter Whittingham will be a Cardiff City player next season," he told
Wales Online.
"He has only just signed a new contract and he has two years left on that, so I don't expect him to be going anywhere.
"We have had no interest in him and, anyway, I'm not in the business of giving away our best players.
"As I have said from the moment I arrived here, I'm about adding to my squad and making it stronger, not making it weaker by selling our important players."
