Belgium defender desperate to be fit for England clash

Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen is hoping injury does not prevent him from playing at Wembley for a second time when England host Belgium this weekend. The centre-back is trying to shake off a groin problem so he can make his first outing at the famous stadium in Saturday's friendly. Should Vermaelen feature he could go up against Gunners team-mates Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who have both been named in Roy Hodgson's England squad for Euro 2012. The 26-year-old was denied the chance to play at the capital stadium when Arsenal took on Birmingham in last season's league cup final and hopes that is not the case this weekend. He said in the Daily Star: "I have never played at Wembley. When Arsenal played the league cup final against Birmingham I was injured. "It must be a great feeling to play there. Just looking at it gives me shivers. "I'm suffering from a groin injury, but I hope to be fit to play against England."
