Hammers boss Sam Allardyce felt his side out-performed City on the day to take a point and felt the financial clout of the champions had less of an impact than may have been expected. He said: "It is easy to see the gap in resources because if you go financially, we have paid £25-30million in transfers and they are about £350million and that doesn't include wages. "The football gap wasn't as big as that - that is the thing that you measure it by, you measure it by the difference in quality of players, not only on the field but on the bench. "I think our players have played better than Man City's players today, they had to to get the draw." And Allardyce is keen for England international Andy Carroll, on a season-long loan from Liverpool, to open his account sooner rather than later.
Omen
"We will keep on practicing and keep on encouraging Andy to get into the right areas and try and get more and more deliveries into him," he said. "In the end the percentages will pay off for him. The better the service, the better the quality of the ball, I think eventually the goal will come. "He has got his best goalscoring record against Man City so I thought, that is a good omen. "(He needs to) keep getting in the right areas and eventually whether it goes in with the head, the shoulder, a knee or his arm, get the first one and I'm sure he will be off and running."
